Chemical Etched Parts

Stentech has 20 years of chemical experience in the manufacturing of close-tolerance metal parts. Today, chemical milling is used to manufacture parts in all areas of the industry, from metal ornaments to aerospace applications.

Stentech has responded to technological changes and engineering services to meet and exceed customer needs.

Chemical-etched parts are used in the manufacturing of:

  • Lead frames
  • Masks
  • Jewellery
  • Encoder discs
  • Stencils
  • Screens, parts, washers, springs

  • Tooling is produced using a photographic process, which can be generated quickly, inexpensively, and with great accuracy. This allows for quick delivery and can be modified with little expense.
  • Parts can be produced for prototype and the tooling can be changed at very little cost.
  • Multiple parts can be reproduced on the same tooling along with different part or shape designs.
  • Set-up of equipment is minimal so run time is maximized.
  • The manufacturing process does not change the structure of the metal at any time.
  • Parts are produced burr-free. This can be a major factor in certain circumstances.
  • A distinct advantage of chemical milling is the range of metals which can be etched, including stainless steel, brass, beryllium copper, copper, and Invar.

  • Aperture and spaces should be no less than the thickness of the metal, preferably 1.5 times the metal thickness.
  • Positional accuracy centre-to-centre +/- .001" typically, depending on thickness of material.
  • Aperture size +/- will depend on the metal type, pattern and size of metal to be etched. Generally, a factor of 155 of the metal thickness is used. Tighter tolerances may be met on prototype runs. On normal production runs, the 15% would be a more realistic factor.
  • Metal thickness range for etching would be from .001" to .025" with thicker metals being chemically milled under special circumstances.
